need help with where to stay on our Maui vacation?

;) asked:

We are wanting to stay in Kaanapali. The only thing is that we need a condo. something with two rooms…it would need to be near the beach and under $185 a night. thank you so much! We were also thinking about staying Kihei. How far way are the two. i hear there is a lot of traffic. It this just a myth?

You didn’t include the dates you want to stay, so prices may vary, but If you want to stay in Kaanapali, the Kaanapali Shores is nice and should be in your price range.

Kihei is about a half hour to 45 minutes away depending on traffic. It’s not that there is so much traffic, but the roads are not freeways. They are 2 or 4 lanes and have quite a few intersections with traffic lights so you just can’t go that fast. But what the heck, for those of us who are on vacation, enjoy the view and don’t be in a hurry!

If you decide to stay in Kihei, the Maui Hill is nice and may have something in your price range. I’ve included a link with info about several Maui condos – you will need to enter your dates to check availability and prices. Since many of the condos are timeshares, you’ll often get the best deal if you rent for a week and start your stay in sync with their time-share weeks. Some go from Sunday to Sunday and others Saturday to Saturday, etc.

you can stay on the beach for free..but bring a lot of blankets because it gets really cold at night, unless you have a big cardboard box to sleep in. sometimes the cops patrol the beach areas, so if you see big red flashy lights, just hide. eventually the cops will get hungry and go back to the donut shop. Maui is very beautiful, have fun while you are here, it is definitely paradise

Last time I went there (in 2007) I stayed at the Kihei Alii Kai. It’s pretty nice and it’s conveniently located in the middle of Kihei. A 3-bedroom condo was about $225 a night, so a 2-bedroom unit would probably be in your price range. I suggest looking at Vacation Rentals by Owner at.

It is about an hours drive from Kaanapali to Kihei. Someone mention Kaanapali Shores, it is too big for me. Try the Maui Kai, it is just two doors down.

Information on private rentals you just search the places you like then email the owners direct.

    Kihei

I found a open condo at The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach. It’s a studio but it will fit 3 people. They have a $175-$225/night rate if you book by June 14. Lahaina traffic is a nightmare so be prepared. Plus, it takes about 45 minutes to get to Kaanapali from the Kahului airport.
