I live in Kihei Maui, Kihei is alright it’s a bit hot and dry.

BEACHES- Kama ole”KAM” 1,2, and 3, Polo beach, Wailea beaches near the hotels are pretty nice, BIG beach(a must!), makena, (Don’t go to little beach. ***** people are everywhere!), La peruse bay really good for snorkeling(past wailea). Most of all the beaches are nice in Kihei.

RESTAURANTS- Roys, The kitchen!, Maui tacos, Stella blues, Longhi’s. There are Lot’s of other good restaurant’s.

Why not Hana. I think people exaggerate when they talk about Hana it’s beautiful and so are the beaches.

Anything you want to know e-mail me I know all about Maui! =)

    Aloha!

Go to Snorkel Bob’s to rent your gear, and when the crowd clears out, ask the staff where they’d be snorkeling if they didn’t have to work. The answer will depend on the weather, the direction of the swells, and other factors that change from day to day.

I think you’ll enjoy the Cafe O Lei family of restaurants in Kihei, Maalaea, and Napili (north of Lahaina). The Maalaea Grill is quite convenient for trips to the Maui Ocean Center. Mama’s Fish House sounds like it should be a dive, but it’s actually quite swanky. The Kula Lodge has good food and a fabulous view. There are no bad Thai restaurants on Maui.

If you’re in Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center (actually a mall, and the Maui Mall is a one-story, open-air shopping center), the sushi bar and the Korean barbeque place are both excellent, and the Auntie Pasto’s downstairs is really good, too, if you’re in the mood for Italian.

Those of you that are interested should spend the money to see ‘ulalena. It’s the history of Hawaii staged by folks who come out of the same school of theatre as the Cirque du Soleil folks. I’ve paid good money to see it three times, personally! The theatre was built especially for that show about ten years ago. Those of you that aren’t interested should stay home and miss out!

Maui is Great.. here’s some suggestions.

    Eateries:
    1. Mama’s Fish House in Paia… the best food and atmosphere. Quite spendy, but well worth it!
    2. Kimo’s in Lahaina… Great sunsets and fun location.
    3. Kula Lodge – bottom of Mt. Haleakala. Great breakfasts! Highly recommend the pancakes or waffles.
    4. LeiLani’s – Fabulous food, especially the desserts. Favorite place for Mai Tai’s and fantastic service!
    5. Cheeseburger in Paradise – Best hamburgers on the island. Mai Tai’s aren’t bad either.
    6. Gazebo – Napili.. serves outstanding breakfast.

    As for places.
    1. Hana van tour. Don’t attempt to do this on your own! Pay the money. It’s well worth it! Opt for the tour that takes you all the way around to the winery. They will stop at the 7 Sacred Pools as well. (Although I didn’t find it as spectacular as everybody made it out to be… it’s part of the tour)
    2. Hawaii Nature Center in Iao
    3. Snorkeling just about anywhere… Black Rock is fantastic! I also liked Honolua Beach.
    4. Lahaina at sunset has some nice shopping and restaurants.
    5. Snorkeling tour to Molokini is a must!
    6. Whale watching tour if in season
    7. Sunrise at Mt. Haleakala. Yes it’s EARLY! It’s a DRIVE! and it’s really really COLD! But it is amazing! Be sure to bring a blanket from the hotel and a sweatshirt. I promise, this will be the only time you will need one. (Afterwards, don’t forget to go to Kula Lodge for breakfast!)

Now, personally, I don’t think the Luau’s are all that great, but if you want to partake in the culture, go right ahead. If it’s just dancers you are interested in, there are many free places to see them. Check with your hotel, as some have nightly sunset ceremonies which include the torch lighting, conch shell blowing and Hawaiian & Polynesian dancers.

    MOST IMPORTANTLY!
Kick back and relax and don’t miss one sunset! They are fabulous! (Keep an eye out for the spark of green… you’ll see)

mama’s fish house is THE best! kinda pricy but the food and location is definatey worth it. Average price was about 40-50/dish. We paid about 180 for two.
Hana drive was awesome, but do agree that it is a bit overrated. … not a MUST if you dont have the patience or the time to do so.
I’d recommend eating at the best restaurants regardless of the cost and if you’re trying to save, you can always go to safeway or costco and “save” for a few meals. enjoy!

The best restaurants on the south side of Maui (Wailea and Kihei where you are staying) are
    Sarento’s on the Beach
    Nick’s Fishmarket
    Cafe O’Lei
    Seawatch

Details about those and many other Maui restaurants, including menu lists and food photos, are on the Restaurants tab of
