I would recommend the Radisson Beach Resort in Lihue on Kauai. It’s a big, sprawling resort with a long, meandering pool that goes through caves and rock archways. It terminates in a sand-bottomed wading pool by the beach. They also have a couple of large ponds out front that are full of all kinds of birds (mostly ducks and swans). Every morning, the hotel staff puts out feed for the birds and it’s very common to see a momma bird with her brood following along in a line, both on the grass and in the water.

The last time I was there, I actually found a momma duck whose babies were about to hatch. The second or third day I was there, her 7 babies hatched. And, by the time I was going to leave, she was leading them out to the pond for their first swim. It was really cool. And, I think it’s the kind of thing a 5-year-old would just love.

A lot of the resorts in Maui actually have tons of events daily that kids can take part in from hula dancing, “fake” fire dancing to lei making to kayaking. Check out the resort calendar or check w/ the concierge! These things are posted daily.
