Long term exposure can lead to permanent damage and tinnitus,but short term exposure can cause tinnitus that goes away as the ear heals.

Earwax buildup is a frequent cause of hearing loss, and the pressure of wax buildup on the sensitive nerves in your inner ear can result in tinnitus. Easily remedied by removing the excess wax,this is one cause of tinnitus.

Difficulty caused by the stiffening of the ear bones in the middle ear is known as otosclerosis. It is inherited and may result in growth of extra bone in the ear and may generate hearing loss and tinnitus.

The stress, damage to the head and neck, tumors of the brain and hypertension may be the causes of the tinnitus according to doctor. Meniere’s disease which is an inner ear disorder that can also cause tinnitus,there is also a rare disease.
