Start a Painting Business Part Time

Working as a painting contractor can offer a good measure of financial security even during poor economic times. The key to success is having a good business plan and a good attitude. In many cases, interior and exterior house painting is not a favorite chore. Most home owners appreciate a nicely painted house but painting is not something they enjoy.
A house painting business is a very profitable home business. First and foremost is the fact that it is a real business and the business does not require renting a store front. Secondly, the business is easily worked part or full time depending upon the owner’s schedule. House painting contractors often work as painters for some time before taking the step of going into business for themselves. Through the years I’ve helped more then a few house painters to start their own successful businesses. A smart young person will learn the trade from an established painting contractor by working a couple years as a house painter. Once learning the tricks of the trade, there is little reason to continue as an employee.
To start a painting business, one needs a knowledge of the trade and the desire to physically work for a living. Most people who go into business for themselves have dreams of sitting behind a desk or just supervising their own work crews. Thats an understandable dream but I’ve learned that a smarter approach, especially during poor economic times is work at keeping your business small and profitable. With a good work ethic, a one-man business can prove to be most profitable. To succeed, one needs a good daily schedule and must be a dependable worker. The simple fact of the matter is that when working for yourself, there is no one to take up any slack. But being your own boss has many rewards
After one makes the commitment that is needed, they really need a good house painting business plan. Without a good business plan it is too easy to overspend in areas of tools and equipment or advertising. A good house painting business guide will provide direction in the area of what tools and equipment are really necessary as well as where to find appropriate and low cost advertising. Most would be surprised as to how many businesses fail the first year and most can attribute at least part of that failure to poor planning.
